Eldorado Canyon Mine Tour is based in Eldorado Canyon at the Historical Techatticup Mine. It's the oldest, richest and most famous gold mine in Southern Nevada.
During your mine tour, you will learn about historical sites where steamboats docked and stamp mills operated over 100 years ago. Man per man and mile per mile Eldorado Canyon has a wider range of historical events than anywhere in the Wild West.This guided above and below ground mining tour will take you into the mine and show you the history of the mine that was once the largest producing Gold Mine in Southern Nevada.
This tour will consist of a walking tour of the old Techatticup Millsite. This is where the ore was brought out of the mine to the stampmill, crushed to a powder and mixed in cyanide tanks where the gold & silver were separated. We'll then proceed into the Savage Mine some 500 feet where you will view up and down stopes and actually see the veins they chasedThis mine was once owned by Senator George Hearst and was claim jumped in 1874 which resulted in numerous murders. The air temperature in the mine is a cool comfortable 70 degrees year round.
We will venture deep into this rumored haunted gold mine and visit 3 different shafts, one of which drops down to over 900 feet. Learn how the hardiest of men labored feverishly looking for GOLD ! Chiseling their way through the mountainside inch by inch, with the most primitive of tools and working by candlelight.
The Techatticup Gold Mine was an important piece of Nevada history, and Eldorado Canyon's population during those days exceeded the population of Las Vegas!
